Riley Gorman is an artist based in Portland, Oregon. With the use of vibrant colors, playful patterns and forms he celebrates the planet’s rich diversity. His paintings depict the interconnectedness across species and environments. Much of his inspiration draws on his experience as a wildlife biologist studying the nesting behaviors of threatened and endangered birds across forests, wetlands and grasslands. 

Beyond his ecological inspirations, Gorman's artistic voice extends into the realms of personal identity and exploration. As a queer transgender individual, he also explores the parallels between identity, love and power between our human experience and the natural world. His choice of species with unique sexual mating systems and societies are used to convey queer narratives.

Gorman's art plays with the harmonious convergence of science and self-expression. He invites the audience to appreciate the beauty of our world’s diversity but also encourages an exploration of our deepest selves.
